    Ratification of CBD

    Refers to a country’s formal acceptance and commitment to adhere to the international treaty aimed at conserving biological diversity, promoting sustainable use of its components, and ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources. Ratification signifies a country’s dedication to implementing the goals and provisions set out in the CBD, which was adopted during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

    Ratifying the CBD obliges countries to integrate biodiversity conservation into national policies and planning processes, develop national strategies for biodiversity conservation, and report on their progress. This global agreement emphasizes cooperation and sharing of knowledge, technologies, and financial resources among countries to address biodiversity issues on a global scale. The ratification process not only showcases a country’s commitment to biodiversity but also enhances its capacity to access international funds and expertise to support conservation initiatives, thereby playing a crucial role in global efforts to halt biodiversity loss.
