Tarsipes – Honey Possum

The honey possum is a tiny marsupial that climbs woody plants to feed on the nectar, pollen, and honey of banksia and eucalyptus. This species resembles a tiny mouse or the tree-living possums of Australia but is distinguished by its exceptionally long muzzle and three brown stripes from its head to its rump.

Although this possum is restricted to a fairly small range in the Southwest of Western Australia, it is locally common. It does not seem threatened with extinction as long as its habitat remains intact and diverse. Their habitats include scrublands and woodlands, where they are more suited and also forage their food.
