When thinking about pack hunting, wolves probably come to mind for a good reason. The wolf is specialized to pack hunting due to being highly social and evolving to be smaller than prehistoric canids, so unlike them, their need for food for each individual is lower, and therefore they can form larger packs.
The wolf has a lot of subspecies around North America, Asia, and Europe, ranging from Saudi Arabia to Greenland; in other words, this is a very adaptive animal. The wolves’ population mainly consists of packs; lone wolves are only temporarily alone after leaving their original pack to form a new one or join a different one. Finally, the wolf is also the largest extant member of the Dogs family.
