    Spilopelia

    So common that they have become a familiar sight in cities and towns, living comfortably alongside humans

    A genus of birds in the dove family, and it includes some of the most familiar and widespread doves in the world. These doves are commonly found in Africa, Asia, and parts of the Middle East, and they have also been introduced to other regions like Australia and the Americas. Spilopelia doves are medium-sized, with slender bodies, long tails, and soft, soothing cooing sounds that make them a peaceful presence in many environments.

    One of the key characteristics of Spilopelia doves is their distinctive plumage. The spotted dove, for example, has a pale brown body with a pinkish tint on the chest and a striking pattern of black and white spots on the back of its neck, forming a sort of collar. This spotted pattern is what gives the spotted dove its name. The laughing dove, on the other hand, has a more uniform, rusty-pink color with a pattern of fine black spots on the chest, which can appear almost like a necklace. Both species are quite beautiful and are often admired for their delicate appearance and gentle demeanor.

    Spilopelia doves are often found in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, gardens, parks, and even urban areas. They are highly adaptable birds and can live comfortably alongside humans. Their diet mainly consists of seeds, which they find on the ground, but they also eat small fruits and insects when available.
