Amphibians’ world records list
Did you know that frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians are some of the coolest creatures on the planet? They’re known for their ability to live on land and in water, adaptation to various environment, and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors!
One of the most interesting things about amphibians is that they undergo metamorphosis. This means they transform from a larval, aquatic form to an adult, terrestrial one. It’s like they’re superheroes, changing their bodies to suit their environment!
Unfortunately, amphibians are facing some tough challenges these days. Habitat loss, pollution, disease, and climate change are all threatening their survival.

Chinese giant salamander
A gargantuan beast, though harmless. Not many predators dare touch it —except for, of course, humans
A true giant among amphibians, earning the title of the world’s largest. These impressive creatures can grow up to 1.5 m (5 ft) in length and weigh up to 64 kg (140 pounds).
Paedophryne amauensis
Smallest frog! The size of a ladybug that can settle on the tip of your pinkie with room to spare
The world’s smallest amphibian, with adults measuring only about 7.7 mm (0.30 in) in length.
Golden poison frog
Despite being one of the most toxic animals on earth, the golden poison frogs can’t save themselves from toxic humans
Not only among amphibians only, but also among all animals! This frog is the world’s most poisonous animal! With enough toxin in its skin to take out up to 10 people, this frog is definitely not one to mess with. It is also the largest poison-dart frog, growing up to 6 cm (2.4 in) in length.

They are known for their ability to “freeze up” when facing temperatures down to -45°C or -49°F
The most cold-tolerant amphibian here! These small salamanders can survive in temperatures as low as -45 °C (-49 °F) thanks to their unique adaptations, such as producing their own antifreeze-like compounds.

This frog is a true survivor, holding the record as the world’s most heat-tolerant amphibian. They can withstand temperatures up to 40°C (104°F) thanks to their unique adaptations that allow them to regulate their body temperature and avoid dehydration.

Not quite a record you want to break: these salamanders have the most restricted distribution of any amphibian species. These salamanders are only found in a small area of the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, USA, and have not been found anywhere else in the world.
