White-headed vulture

They’re known as ‘old world vultures’ endemic to Africa and the first ones to get a whiff of corpses

Bernard DUPONT

Would you believe me if I say these ferocious birds blush in a happy mood? Yes, their white head is filled with blood vessels, making it hard to hide their excitement!

Unlike other vultures (that feed on dead bodies), they don’t mind a little labor to catch, kill and eat prey. It doesn’t mean that they don’t eat carcasses; they are usually the winners when reaching the vulture-feeding frenzy. They are huge fans of the Baobab tree and would choose it as a nesting site – any day.

Sadly they are victims of habitat destruction and illegal poisoning by pesticides. We need strict action; otherwise, we’ll call this bird extinct soon.
