Neophoca – Australian sea lion

The only native and restricted pinniped in Australia

Australian sea lion coat color reflects its age and gender. Males are dark brown with yellow mane, and females are fawn or silver with a cream underside. The pups are dark brown but have dark masks on their face and a pale crown. The male size can reach up to 3 times the size of the females.

They feed on fishes, octopuses, crustaceans, and squids and can dive up to 180m (600 ft) and stay up to 40 minutes to search for food. Currently, they are listed as Endangered as they are frequently entangled in fishing nets that might danger their lives.
