Poecilogale – African striped weasel
A skunk mimic, besides a similar appearance, also releases smelly fluid from its anal gland when they feel threatened
African striped weasel is one of the most petite mammalian carnivores in Africa. They have long and sleek bodies with short legs. Their body coat is primarily black, with a thick, white stripe on the back leading to the top of the head. The tail is bushy and completely white.
This animal is a nocturnal hunter that preys on birds, reptiles, and small mammals. They hunt mainly by scent, attacking the target with a sudden lunge and striking at the back of the neck. Then they finish it with a killing blow by kicking the prey and whipping their bodies.
