Tarsiidae – Tarsiers
The connecting link between primitive monkeys and higher monkeys
Tarsiers are exclusively nocturnal, small (weigh around 140g – 5oz), and the only purely carnivorous primate on Earth. Family is restricted to several Asian islands.
Tarsiers possess an extraordinary ability to catch prey in the dark with laser precision despite lacking a reflective retina layer in their eyes (like cats) thanks to the proportionally longest legs and largest eyes with strong auditory sense. They share features of both prosimians and simians but maintain characteristics unique to them. The fossil record of Tarsiidae is minimal, consisting of only two genera; the oldest tarsiid discovered is from the Middle Eocene.
These creatures may NOT look much different from their relatives, but they sound different.
