Pink fairy armadillo

Nicknamed “sand swimmer,” able to burrow through the soil as fast as a fish swimming in the water

Please meet the smallest of all armadillos! They have a light pink armored shell with 24 bands that allow them to roll up into a ball to protect their underside, which is covered with white fur. They also have to dig claws on the front leg, enabling them to dig burrows.

When threatened, they can dig so fast to bury themselves in a burrow in seconds, and the armor plate can act as a cork to close the burrow’s entrance. When it rains, they must leave the burrow, or they will get drowned or their fur wet, which causes them to be unable to thermoregulate properly and might die due to hypothermia.
