    Duttaphrynus

    Easily identifiable by their warty skin — their unique defense mechanism to deter predators

    These toads are found in many parts of Asia and are known for their distinctive appearance and behavior. One of the most notable characteristics of Duttaphrynus toads is their warty skin, which is covered in small bumps that provide a rough texture. Additionally, Duttaphrynus toads have a parotid gland behind their eyes that releases toxic secretions when threatened. These secretions can be harmful to predators and can even cause skin irritation in humans.  

    Duttaphrynus toads are not only unique in their appearance and behavior but also in their adaptability. They emit a loud, high-pitched trill during the breeding season, a sound that can be heard from a considerable distance and is often used to identify different species of Duttaphrynus toads.
